What happens ~ when evil trickles down
and now thousands ~ of good people ~ find themselves
in their everyday lives, asked - required - to do things
that are unconscionable to them ~
"I have to deny this person's disability, because why? ~ or
step on another's civil liberties, foreclose on their homes ~
hand out lay off notices, when I know the company profits ~
cover up ~ deny ~ lie
What happens ~ when now millions
go home every day - wipe their brow - whisper to themselves ~
it's just the policy ~ I'm just doing my job
Yet ~ in their hearts ~ they know ~ there is something terribly wrong.
What happens ~ when legions of people
at home, and around the world begin ~ to wake up
look in the mirror ~ and bravely face,
the unvarnished, unpalatable truth ~
the world has changed;
my world, as I thought it, is changed.
unchecked greed now rules this place ~
robbing, terrorizing, proselytizing ~ responsible for despicable,
in-explicable, previously un-imaginable things.
What happens then is this ~
your heart breaks
and you wake
every morning ~ to the ache
angry or humiliated or weak to the knees ~ asking yourself
what will I, can I do ~ today?
I will vote ~ in the ways a vote still counts.
Stop shopping (without thinking) ~ I will no longer, knowingly
contribute to, this horrible ~ unethical ~ insatiable greed.
Start bargaining ~ Trading, Gardening, Talking to neighbors & friends ~
Become ~ more efficient, self - sufficient ~ ANYTHING ~
to be ~ just a little less ~ every day ~ like Sheep.

What happens I wondered when the people begin to know that many of our leaders are the puppets of corporate kings. What happens when we witness, notice, hundreds of people are running around, behaving like demi-gods, or feudal lords of their little kingdoms. These are the leaders of trust,
in our governments, banks and corporations, they are our law - makers, producers, employers, protectors, of the people. What would we do then? MY hope is that what happens then is this...
