The Coast Road Song (everyday is earth day)
Walkin along a coast road
Looking out to sea
I feel the breath, the life
that's out there -
Oceans calling me
You know I've never met an otter
who I didn't like, A whale or a sea lion,
who'd wanna throw away their life.
who'd wanna throw away their life.
So why, why why
Do we feed poison to our friends
why, why, why - orchestrate our planet's end.
It is business, without ethics
that corrupts our futures dream -
Mighty is that dragon's fire
Will we be strong enough, to face it's ire
or close our eyes and lose the earth to greed.
I don't mean to be a preacher
I don't aim to make you fall
but your environmental failures
have put us up against the wall.
Atop the heights of mountains
I see forests - ever green
In the valleys, on the hilltops
Golden eagles, flying, free
You know, I moved across these landscapes
Swam in pristine and lovely lakes -
And yet I've never seen the northern lights
through acid rain, or a smog filled night.
The woodland sounds, a lone wolf howls
as were awed by the midnight sight.
How we can touch, so much beauty
then forget it, when we leave
Is a crime for which we'll answer
unto heaven - and history...
Walkin along a coast road
looking out to sea
Wishing the world would listen
Hoping the world will see -
Why would we allow it
the poisoning of friends
How can we permit it
these disasters without end -
Walking along a coast road
just looking out to sea... - Jo McKay (aka Polar Jo)

This is a song, so you need to imagine yourself singing it rather than reading it. LOL. How did you do? My brother had a band when we were teenagers and I helped to 'write the songs'. (That was the beginning of my, usually unpaid writing career :). I wanted to write an Earth Day song about something imminently important. I think our oceans are under siege right now. To learn more,
go to TED TALKS "Sylvia Earle- How to Protect our Oceans"and at Top Docs online, watch "The End of the Line" - both excellent films that are 'solution' oriented.
